The Monstera Adansonii, or Monstera Monkey Mask, is the younger sibling of the very well known Monstera Deliciosa, or Swiss Cheese Plant. Like its older sibling even the Monstera Monkey Mask has holes in its leaves but they look a little different. The Monstera Deliciosa usually has holes at the end of the leaf, as if someone has cut into the leaf. With the Monstera Monkey Mask the holes are more in the middle of the leaf, by the vein, and the ends of the leaf are closed, as if someone has punched a hole in the leaf. This gives this species a very distinctive look. The reason its leaves have all those holes is because it grows in jungle shade. It’s an epiphyte, which means it grows in crevices in large trees. The gaps in its leaves allow the available light to reach the lowest foliage. The older the plant, the more holes in its leaves.
Plant Care
Light: Best in medium light - lots of light is okay, but not direct sun. Okay in a semi-shaded spot.
Water: Leave to dry out a little between waterings. Water whenever the top two inches of soil feel dry.
Humidity: Likes a moist atmosphere. Mist every few days, especially when the central heating is on.
