Plant & Homeware Shop Assistant

We are looking to expand our team of passionate plant people on a Saturday.

We’re looking for a Plant & Homeware Shop Assistant to join us on a Saturday to help us guide, advise and support our customers.

The right person will be able to demonstrate good basic plant knowledge (either gained professionally or as a hobby) alongside retail experience and strong communication skills. They will make our customers feel welcome and satisfied with the help the received.

(Additional shifts may be available on an adhoc basis to cover staff leave/busy periods etc)

  • Dealing with enquiries from customers including helping them make plant purchasing decisions and providing advice on plant care (such as dealing with issues) – as well as supporting customers with homewares/gift purchases
  • Routine plant care: watering, repotting, propagation, identifying issues/following treatment plans
  • Replenishment of stock ensuring products are correctly priced, displayed and stored.
  • Visual merchandising of plant/products on shelves, updating in store and window displays
  • Operate cash register and ring through purchases
  • Processing online orders
  • Processing incoming deliveries
  • Deal with customer enquiries via email and over the phone
  • Updating POS system: managing stock levels, processing daily sales records and online content management
  • Maintain a clean and orderly environment in the shop
  • Supporting with generation of content/images for social media
There may also be opportunities to support in the delivery of plant-related workshops for the right candidate

Essential Requirements:
  • Knowledge of plants and ability to provide plant care advice
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a desire to make customers feel welcome and supported
  • Confidence working independently (on days when you may be alone) as well as with colleagues
  • Experience in working on a POS system
  • Have a customer-first attitude, whilst being results-driven
  • Patient and comfortable dealing with complaints
  • Good time-management skills and the ability to juggle multiple tasks/not get flustered when interrupted by customers

A love of plants is a given – you MUST have a good existing level of plant knowledge to confidently advise customers, answer questions and provide plant-related advice.

This is especially important as there may be times when you are working alone on the shop floor. 

We are NOT be able to provide extensive training on plant knowledge and care.

Plant knowledge will need to be demonstrated at interview/on a trial shift.
